The CRP Automotive family of brands includes a number of “better than OE” parts — that is, parts which perform better (usually with regard to durability) than what came from the factory. In this episode of Inside the Brands, David Hirschhorn covers an additional improvement to one of these SKUs — a Rein Automotive water pump kit for the VW/Audi 2-liter TSI gasoline engine.Anybody who’s familiar with VW/Audi vehicles knows these pumps are prone to failure, with the weak link being the gasket that seals the integrated thermostat housing to the engine. In the original units, this gasket was made out of EPDM rubber which tends to expand when it comes into contact with oil. And when the gasket expands, even slightly, it causes the plastic thermostat housing to crack — which can cause a leak and even catastrophic failure. We had already changed the gasket to a better material (ITB Episode 116), but recently we went one better and made the thermostat housing out of aluminum instead of plastic. The new aluminum unit is much less prone to cracking.Additionally, the Rein-brand kit comes with all the parts you need to do the repair. And unlike other kits that are available on the market, ours is engineered to fit right the first time.WPU0016 Have a question about this kit or any other Rein Automotive parts?
