In this episode of Inside the Brands, CRP’s David Hirschhorn talks about a recent update to a Rein brand part that’s designed to increase its performance and longevity vs. the OE equivalent.
This “better than OE” part is an update to the Rein water pump and kit for the 2-liter turbocharged engines found in many Volkswagen and Audi models.
A known issue with the original water pump housing is that the gasket which seals the water pump to the engine block is made of an EPDM rubber that tends to expand when in contact with oil.
When the gasket expands, it can crack the plastic water pump housing, which leads to leaks…and in some cases, catastrophic failure.
Knowing that this is a weakness of this popular engine, CRP looked for a better solution. While the upgraded gasket may look the same as the old one, it’s made of a completely different material.
This new gasket is made of HNBR, or Hydrogenated Nitrile Butadiene Rubber (also known as HSN or Highly Saturated Nitrile.)
The HNBR gasket is more oil resistant than the original. So it will perform better than OE. And it’s just another example of how CRP and Rein Automotive stay on top of quality to provide the market with what it needs.
Rein Part Numbers:
WPL0016 (Kit with belt, etc.)
WPC0016 (Housing with water pump)
