Should you switch from conventional motor oil to synthetic?
The answer depends on more than mileage or preference.
In this Inside the Brands episode, CRP Automotive explains the real differences between conventional, blended, and synthetic motor oils, and what to consider before making the switch.
One of the first things to evaluate is seal condition. Synthetic motor oils have smaller, more uniform molecules that can find cracks and weak points in older or degraded seals. If seals are already compromised, switching to synthetic may reveal leaks that were already there.
This video explains how synthetic oil behaves differently in an engine.
Why seal condition matters when changing oil types.
How cold starts and extended drain intervals factor into the decision.
Conventional oils work well. Blended oils work better. Synthetic oils offer the highest level of protection, especially in cold climates and under demanding conditions, but only when the engine is ready for them.
If you’re deciding whether synthetic motor oil is right for a vehicle, this episode walks through the factors that actually matter.
