When most people think of Honda and Acura vehicles, they think “reliable”. And for the most part, that’s totally accurate — as long as the vehicle is maintained properly at the recommended service intervals.
But there’s an increasingly common failure and related corrective/preventative repair that we’ve been hearing about from the field as well as our Innovation Council members. One that’s mostly caused by a lack of proper oil maintenance.
Many of the Honda and Acura vehicles use engines with a form of variable valve timing called VTEC. These engines contain spool valves that change the engine’s valve timing based on its RPM.
The spool valves have integrated filter-gaskets that can get clogged when the oil isn’t changed regularly and are also known to be a source of leaks. In most cases, changing these filter-gaskets isn’t too difficult and doesn’t take much time, but if you don’t have them at your fingertips when you need them, you could end up tying up one of your bays for a few hours.
With the new product additions we recently launched, CRP now offers 16 versions of these AJUSA-brand filter-gaskets that fit various Hondas and Acuras from 1993 to 2017. Check out showmetheparts.com/crp for more details.
Many high-volume Honda/Acura shops choose to keep these in inventory and it makes sense. These AJUSA filter-gaskets are all OE-quality, priced competitively, and available thru your CRP/AJUSA distributor, so if you regularly see these vehicles you might want to think about keeping them in inventory as well.
If you have a question about these gaskets or any other AJUSA part, feel free to post it below or on the CRP Automotive Facebook page. And don’t forget to subscribe to our YouTube channel to be among the first to learn about new parts and tech tips. Thanks for watching!
